Log-structured file system for Linux 2.6

LFS with roll-forward vs. ext3 including fsync

IOzone is a file system benchmarking tool available from www.iozone.org capable of measuring wide variety of file system operations on many platforms. This page contains graphs comparing the performance of LFS with roll forward and ext3. All measured operations were single threaded and the times obtained include the fsync call.

The computer used in this experiment was an AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ with 256MB RAM with two SATA disks. The measured file systems always resided on a 80GB Seagate Barracuda while the rest of the system was placed on a 120GB WD. Note that the maximum file size is twice the available RAM.

Raw data of LFS are available here. Raw data of ext3 are available here.
